Cutter by Stacey Borel takes us back to Macie and Dodger who we met in the first book of this series. I remember reading the first book and wanting to know what happened between the two of them. I waited and waited but the book never came out, then I forgot all about it for a while. So, imagine my surprise when I find out their story was written and has been published for nearly a year. Better late than never, right? Let’s watch as Macie and Dodger fall in love. Review: I wanted to love this book. The first book in the series, Bender, is one of my favorite books of all time so I had high hopes for this one. Sadly though, while the book was fine, good even, it just didn’t measure up to what I was expecting. My absolute favorite part of this book was the way the author described Macie’s first doctors appointment. It was real. There was no sugar coating, no pretending that having a baby is a dignified process. I also appreciated the way Macie considered all her options and how this book wasn’t pushing a pro-life agenda and didn’t shame people who made a different decision than Macie. Thinking back to the first book, I don’t remember Macie being so whiny and high maintenance. I remember her being sad that the relationship between her and Dodger ended. This book consists of sex and Macie struggling for control. It’s written from Macie’s perspective which is unfortunate because Dodgers thoughts might have been table to tamper some of the unease I felt with the games both characters seemed to play. Throughout the book, we’re reminded that Dodger is an alpha. The thing is, despite the constant reminders; I didn’t see it. He was clam, collected, and confident but he was never forceful or overbearing. You could tell he respected Maci and her wishes, even when she wishes he wouldn’t. Mostly, I don’t mind when characters have quirks. However, I want to relate to them. It’s always nice when I can see myself in the situation they’re in and think ya, I’d do that too. As far as Macie was concerned, there wasn’t a reason given for her being so controlling, stand-offish and sometimes downright rude. I couldn’t relate, much less like her. Aside from my problems with the characters the story line was engaging, and the book was well written. Cutter is a solid, quick read that won’t leave you feeling emotional. It provides a very honest and realistic glimpse into the nice and not so nice parts of pregnancy which made it a worthwhile read in my mind. I’m not sure if this is a friends/ enemies to lovers book or what I should be expecting. But I’m really excited to find out. Buy it Here Virgin Territory Surely I’m not the only person who feels like those eyes are staring right into my sole. Yet another example of reading a book based on the cover. When will I learn my lesson, hopefully this one will be better. I looks like we get a 25 year old NHL goalie (and virgin) and a 27 year old yoga teacher tasked with helping him manage his anger. The description only left me with a million and one questions that must be answered. Why is he still a virgin? Why does he have anger management issues? Buy it Here The Pick Up I saw the cover and knew there was no way I would be able to pass this book up. I mean, look at it… Not to mention, you have a single father, a male elementary school teacher and a small town. I’m sure you all know by now how much I love books set in small towns.
