NEIGHBOR DEAREST by Pnelope Ward Publication Date: August 4, 2016 Genre: Romance, Romantic Comedy Source: Purchased Length: 269 pages Story Rating: 5/5 Review: I think I have the goofiest grin on my face right now. Where do I even start? This book! Oh man, let me find the words. It was cute and sweet and funny but at the same time, it was serious and emotional and oh so frustrating. This book was an emotional roller coaster; I laughed, I wanted to cry, I wanted to scream, I was worried and frustrated, then I laughed again and ended the book with a smile on my face. You only get one true love, one soulmate. Not everyone is lucky enough to find that person in a lifetime. Penelope Ward – Neighbor Dearest I felt like I was right there with Chelsea, pulling my hair out trying to understand why she couldn’t be with Damien. The chemistry between the two of them was intense and undeniable, so was their fight to keep it in check. He was so sweet and lovable the whole time he was pushing her away. I wanted to be mad at him, I really did but I couldn’t and that was even before I understood why he was behaving that way. Usually, I complain when there’s a big twist in the book, it’s too obvious, it’s too trivial… this one was perfect and heartbreaking. I really enjoy friends – to – lovers type stories. I love that there’s already a level of trust in the relationship and then they up the stakes and really go for it. When they finally give in, the result is amazing. It seems when you’re friends with someone first you get to skip the awkward getting to know you part of a relationship. There’s something so special about that. My only complaint about this book is I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to the two of them when it ended. Don’t you just hate when that happens? Penelope went above and beyond in this book. The dogs…. oh, you guys, I just loved the dogs and I’m not even a dog person. They took the book from amazing to ahh-may-ZING! He was a jerk; he didn’t deserve to be the object of my lust. But he’d smelled so good, like spice and musk and man. We don’t have control over what we fantasize about. The fact that he was mean and unattainable made him that much more likely to be an object of my forbidden thoughts. Just like I learned in psychology class back in college, thought suppression often leads to obsession. If you tell yourself not to think about something, then you’ll think about it even more. Penelope Ward – Neighbor Dearest I’ve only read a couple of Penelope Ward’s books in the past and while I’ve never disliked them, this one feels like it’s a step above. Honestly, I can’t wait to read more of her books in the near future. If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would.
