Improve your mental health in a major way
Why improving our mental health is important.
Mental health is a really important thing that we all need to be aware of, and it is not just those suffering with a specific mental illness who need to think about this. The truth is that you are always going to have to take care of your mind, just as you need to care for your body.
Having strong mental health leads to a better quality of life and the ability to enjoy yourself a lot more – and the good news is that good mental health isn’t passive. It is a practice that you can choose to engage in, not just something you either have or don’t have.
How to improve your mental health
With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the best things you can do to improve your mental well being.
Sometimes, especially when we’re struggling mentally, it’s not easy to just do things. But, I truly believe that everything worth doing is worth doing poorly. Walking around the block is better than not exercising at all, standing in the shower is better than not showering.
Treat yourself with the same kindness, compassion and understanding you would treat a friend. Do what you can when you can. Slowly but surely you’ll start to see your mental health improve.
Get Enough Exercise
One of the best things about working on ourselves is that it doesn’t need to be complicated. The simplest lings can lead to the greatest improvements in your mental health. Moving more, getting exercise is a suggested solution to pretty much everything.
The best thing about this is every little bit counts. You don’t need to run a marathon, maybe you do some stretches or go for a short walk. Something is better than nothing and exercise can improve your mental health quicker and with less side effects than pretty much anything else.
Of course, this can be a difficult thing to achieve because of the cyclical nature of mental health. If you are not feeling well enough to move around, then exercise can feel impossible. Do what you can. Start somewhere and go from there. You find every time you do it, you start to feel a little bit better.
Exercise is form of self care and you deserve all the love and care in the world. You deserve to feel better than you do right now.
Seek Therapy
As a Social Worker, I’m a big fan of therapy. I think literally everyone could benefit from it and pretty much everyone should get it sooner than they do.
Therapy is not a last resort. Things don’t have to be completely dire, you don’t need to be in a full on crisis in order to get and benefit from therapy. In fact, therapy works amazingly well not only as a way to treat mental distress but also as a way to prevent it. The more people who start to see it that way, the better off well all be.
Regardless, if things aren’t going well for you from a mental health perspective, talking to a counselor might be exactly what you need. Even just a neutral party to listen and validate your feelings and concerns. It can be a safe place to express the thoughts and feelings you don’t want to burden your friends and family with.
Therapy is not a one size fits all solution. There are so many different types of therapy and techniques used by each therapist. It’s important to do your research, read reviews, and make sure you’re meeting with a therapist who is right for you. You might find that you need to shop around a little before you find the right therapist, but it is worth it if it means that you end up feeling a lot better about yourself in general.
Make time to Relax
We’re all chronically stressed. Figuring out how to relax in the first place can be almost as hard as finding the time to do this. Learning how to relax is something that is going to prove really important on our journey to mental wellness.
Finding time to relax can be difficult with the never ending list of obligations we have in our lives, which is why the first step is to try to eliminate some of your daily obligations. Take an honest look at how your spending your time and what you’re getting out of everything you do. Cut back on or even eliminate the things that don’t bring your joy or benefit you in some other way.
Once you have opened up your schedule a little bit and become more intentional with the things you spend your time on, you will find that it makes an amazing difference to how much less stressed you are. This is especially true if you use your new found free time on pursuits related to relaxation.
How you relax is obviously another matter altogether – for some people that would involve Delta 8 THC Vape Carts, for others it might just be a bath and a cup of tea and a book. In any case, it’s vital that you are relaxing fully and that you do so with full enjoyment of it.
The best part is that once we start working toward improving out mental health, we want to keep working on it so the benefits can build exponentially.
Make Connections
One of the most important things we can all do to improve our mental health is to make more connections with other people. We are social beings, and having social connections is a vital part of how we feel about ourselves and our lives, so this is something that you need to be fully aware of if you are trying to take good care of yourself. It’s vital that you are making an effort to make new connections with people wherever possible.
One of the best ways to do this is to just go and spend time doing something that you enjoy, by joining a club for instance. If you do that, you will find that you are going to feel so much better about yourself so soon, and that you will be in a position where you are likely to meet other like minded people, which is a really vital part of good mental health too. All in all, social connections are arguably the single most important thing that you need to have if you are going to keep your mental health as strong as possible.
Final Thoughts
If you can do all those things, you are going to be in a position where your mental health is much stronger and you are likely to be feeling a lot happier about yourself. If you can do that, it’s likely going to help you out a lot in making the most of your life on the whole.
