Habits that will change your life … that’s a pretty big claim isn’t it?

We hear a lot of talk about being our best selves and living the life we most want. One way to facilitate that is by embracing some good habits. By doing things every single day that help us reach the goals that are most meaningful and important to us we may slowly find our selves becoming the people we most want to be.

Life Changing Habits

Today we’re going to talk about the habits we should embrace, those things we know we ‘should’ do. The things that although will only benefit us, for some reason we just don’t do them. We procrastinate and make excuses, never embracing the habits and life changes bound to bring us happiness.

Maybe it’s overwhelming and the whole thing feels like too much work, perhaps it’s too easy, too hard, too confusing. Maybe no one else is doing it and we don’t want to be the only one. Whatever our reason for not doing it, we know we should. Deep down, we probably even want to.

The thing we do when we think of our ideal self, we might think of someone who can find a positive in every situation, exercises every day and eats her veggies. Very few of us will think of the person we are right now. The person we most want to be probably does all the things we should do, but don’t…

The good news is, becoming that person might not be as hard as we think.

With some simple tweaks to our every day activities, we can form some life-changing habits. With time and practice things things we will find ourselves feeling better and living the life we always wanted.

Sometimes people talk about living an intentional or heart-centered life. That’s really just a fancy way of saying that from this point forward we’re going to do things that make us feel good and bring us closer to our goals.

Deep down, I’m sure we all want to live a life focused on being the best version of ourselves and doing the things most meaningful to us.

Habits Everyone Should Embrace

Positive Thinking

Wouldn’t it be nice to see the good in everything? To make our way through life without insecurity and self-doubt? The truth is, we’re mean to ourselves. If anyone talked to me the way I talk to myself they would be out of my life before the sentence ever left their mouth. Reframing our thoughts and learning to be more positive can only bring us joy.

Exercise

We’ve all heard it, 30 minutes a day. But gosh, I’m so busy, I don’t have time… I’m great at not exercising too. Thing is when I exercise and exercise regularly, not only does my body thank me, but my mind as well, it feels good. It’s easier to focus, easier to fall asleep, likely even easier to eat healthily. All very, very positive things.

Minimalism

As a society, we’re quite obsessed with stuff. Getting stuff, having the best stuff, having more stuff than everyone else. We focus on what we don’t have, neglecting and minimizing the things we do. If we embrace a life of minimalism, of having enough and not being worried about getting more, we can cut out a lot of negativity.

Kindness

This one shouldn’t be as hard as it is. Smiling at a stranger, buying coffee for the person behind you in the drive-thru, holding the door all very easy tasks. Yet, we are so rarely kind do one another. This is another habit that quickly pays off, even something as simple as smiling more can have huge feel-good benefits.

Single Tasking

Remember when multi-tasking was all the rage when people would brag about eating breakfast, reading the paper, talking on the phone and washing dishes at the same time? Turns out, you can complete tasks faster, more efficiently and more meaningfully if you focus only on one thing at a time. This allows you to stop thinking about what else, what next and just live in the present.

Goal Setting

One thing all successful people have in common is they set goals and work toward them. By setting meaningful and realistic goals you’re giving yourself and your life a road map. You know where you are and where you want to be. Plus, every time we achieve a goal we end up feeling good, more confident and accomplished.
